So! I've been wanting to try spray painting furniture for a while now. I like bright bold pieces but actually painting them seemed a bit too time consuming to me. So when my awesome friend Carlyne gave me an old lowboy dresser for the nursery I decided it would be my golden yellow focal point. For three days I strapped on Parker's professional grade painters mask, 4 layers of clothes because the garage is freezing and started spraying. I followed the advice of Brooke from allthingsthrifty.com. Shes got lots of good stuff but anything specifically about spray painting you can find here. This is what my end product ended up looking like:
and I love it! Even with all of its little imperfections. I used Krylon in Bauhaus Gold, ended up being about 5 cans total to cover this 6 ft dresser.
This fabrics on top of the dresser are projects that have yet to be finished! The whale is a soon to be pillow for my new chair along with the lighter solid teal. The patterned lighter teal will be a fabric headboard for the twin bed and the darker teal will be pillows for the bed. Last but not least the brown with tiny polka dots will be curtains. All purchased from Joanns.

Nursery News, post #1
Naturally from the minute I became pregnant I've been thinking about the nursery. Color scheme, theme, what to buy, what to make, everything! I have scoured many blogs looking for inspiration and eventually decided a while back to go with a nautical theme. The Scarff family has always had a nautical feel to them which I'm assuming comes from their love for their beach house on Pearl Island in the San Juans. Parker's grandparents built it back in the 70's and all of his siblings and cousins have been going there every summer since they were born. It seems to hold a special place in all of there hearts so it felt right for Hudson to start off early.
I'd been gathering bits and pieces over the past few months. I got this cool navy blue fabric with white rope and knots on it from Joann fabric to cover an old chair that my grandparents gave to my mom and eventually to me. I'm so happy it gets to be in Hudsons room! All my cousins and I loved sitting with grandma and grandpa in those chairs. It was my first attempt at reupholstering and for having a big old 9 month pregnant belly I don't think it turned out too shabby!
Here is a photo of my cousins grandma and I in the big comfy blue chair!
Here is some of my progress on it and the final product!
So back to my color scheme. I really like yellow. its just a happy color. and yellow and navy happen to go really well together... So with that I was definitely liking the idea of light gray accent wall with almost white with a tint of gray for the other walls and bright white baseboards. We ended up going with painter's white from behr premium selections and sharkey gray by Martha Stewart for the accent wall. I'm really happy with how it turned out. it's really subtle but adds alot.
So now I for sure had gray, navy blue, a goldeny yellow and white in my color scheme. I really like this combo but for a little boys room it felt like it was missing something... so I found this awesome website called colorlovours.com that let me creat a color palette and picked out the colors I already had, then played around with different shades of blue until I found something I really liked that I also thought would go well with my more contemporary nautical theme. this is what i ended up with:
I think the teals bring it together
really well and give it that pop that it needs to feel a bit warmer. In the palette below the colors left to right are: Wall borders (which isn't visible as its bright white), main wall color, accent wall color, crib color and the brown will be added in as curtains and accents around the room.

Baby Shower Love
So I'm due February 24th with a little boy named Hudson Parker Scarff. I'm so stinkin' excited! We recently put together his shower which turned out being a great success with delish food and lots of good people, plus a hint of snow!
The shower theme was My Little Bird. we had a few other options like little gentleman and a woodland creatures but in the end I was really satisfied with our choice. My boyfriend Parker's mom hosted it at her house and handled the food which was great because she is an amazing cook!
Here was a simple evite via paperlesspost.com. I highly recommend this site if you're looking for an evite that you can really play around with and make your own. When you sign up you are given 25 free coins and stamps, and beyond that you pay 5 dollars for each. To me it felt worth it as its very easy to manage your guest list, make changes and of course personalize:
On the menu was:
Artichoke Frittata
Butter Lettuce
Avocado and Mandarin Salad
Vermicelli Shrimp Salad
and all kinds of bite size misc. desserts.. it was wonderful!
We chose to do two games and a optional craft considering organizing games for a large group of guest is a bit difficult. We ended up going with Guess Mamas Belly Size and Baby Bingo. My best friends little sister is a graphic design student and was able to whip up a cute little bingo board and we pinned numbers to each present and called out the number when it was opened. I think this was definitely preferable to baby item bingo.
For the craft we had everyone paint baby onsies and bibs! I actually got the idea via this blog post from the farmers nest. The prep work took quite a while but the cute and personal onsies I got from it was well worth it!
So like I said, success! We are so lucky to have had such a great group of people attend. Hudson is one lucky boy!
